Ayasofya inşaasında çalışan bir ustanın kapıda bekçilik yapan çocuğuna, ansızın bembeyaz bir melek görünmüş ve ondan babasını çağırmasını istemiş. Çocuk ayrılamayacağını söyleyince Melek "Sen gelene kadar ben senin yerine bekleyeceğim" demiş. Bunu duyan İmparator Jüstinyen Ayasofya'yı sonsuza kadar melekler korusun diye, çocuğu bir daha hiç geri yollamamış. İşte o gün bu gün, melekler, şehrin hep üzerinde, İstanbul'u korurlarmış...

A white angel came to the son of a masonry worker who was guarding the gate, asked him to call his father. The kid replied that the couldn't go away from gate; Angel smiled and told him that he would watch the gate until his father came.
